MARINA/DOCKAGE

Pro Valor Charters operates out of two docks:

The Harbourview Marina Complex (HBV) (also known as the Wheatley Dock), and

The James Young Marina (JYM) (also known as the Chalwell Dock) (located behind the Rite Breeze Grocery Store)

Slip-Rental Rates are listed mid-way thru this section!

Both marinas are conveniently located to the Beef Island Airport (EIS) which is just two miles away ($5.00 taxi ride).  They are both within walking distance of each other and strides away from the Rite Breeze Grocery Store (part of the Rite Way food chain) which is open Monday-Saturday 7:00 AM-9:00 PM and Sunday 8:00 AM-7:00 PM.

Our offices are located at the HBV Marina directly in front of the Kong Ming Restaurant stairway.  We are generally open from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Monday thru Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  If we're not in the office, our cell phone numbers are posted on the front office door.  Please call as we are typically out on the dock or over at the James Young Dock, just five minutes away.  For your convenience, taxi drive phone numbers are also posted in our front office window.

Our fax machine operates 24 hours a day.  The best way to contact us still remains by e-mail or cell.  We check e-mail many times during the day both at home and the office.  E-mail probably results in the quickest response time from our end.  We carry cell phones with us at all times -- Jim using his as our primary means of communication.  We do not monitor VHF leaning on our cells phones and those issued to our charter guests to stay in contact.

All charters begin at HBV.  Charter guests are welcome to use HBV's facilities which include:  bathrooms and showers, laundry facilities, marine store, a gift shop, two car rental companies (within a mile), hotel accommodations (above PVC's office), and UBS Dive Center.

If you'd like to contact the Harbourview Guest House, their contact information is: harbourview@surfbvi.com - 1-284-495-0165 (office), 1-284-441-3234 (cell) - Attn Chandra.  If you'd like to cc us we'll be kept in the loop as to your accommodations and assist where we can.

There are several restaurants within close proximity  to our docks - some by foot or dinghy while others require a taxi.  You may enjoy Emile's Restaurant (right across the street), Kong Ming Asian Terrace (upstairs) or Red Rock Restaurant & Lounge located at the Penn's Landing (access by dinghy or three blocks' walk).  Red Rock offers all PVC guests a free rum drink with dinner.  Just tell them your boat name and mention Jim/Cecilia.

If you're up for a taxi ride, you'd certainly enjoy the Tamarind Club or Secret Garden (both in the Josiah's Bay area) or Pussers East (fna Fat Hog Bob's) where you'll enjoy one spectacular view along with their menu.  As mentioned earlier, Trellis Bay is just two miles away where you will enjoy De Loose Mongoose, Cyber Cafe or D Best Cup for a meal.

There are two car rental companies  in close proximity to our marinas.  You may contact them at:  DeDe's Car Rental (1-284-495-2041 - dedescarrental@surfbvi.com) and Dollar Car Rental (1-284-494-6093).  They will deliver the car to the marina at which time you'll make a quick return to their offices to fill out paperwork.  Ask at DeDe's for your PVC discount mentioning that you're a charter guest with us.  We are closer to, and tend to use more often, DeDe's.  We find them a true pleasure to work with.

Taxi into Road Town is about $8-$10/person each way or you may catch the shuttle for $2.00/person each way.

We have laundry facilities right in the marina or you may go down the road (about a mile) to Brackwell or 42nd Street.  Prices for wash/dry vary by facility.  HBV machines use $1.75 or $1.50 depending on which machine you pick and accept quarters only.  Dryers aren't always the most intense involving lots of your time or running your laundry thru a couple times.  Bring your own quarters -- laundry soap for sale in PVC's offices.

There are also many churches in the immediate area, all within walking distance.

A money machine is located just one block east of the JYM Dock at Thelma's.  Otherwise, you'd have to walk/taxi to the Beef Island (EIS) Airport, stop at H. Lavity Stout College or go into Road Town to the financial district.

The James Young Marina is used for long-term slip rentals and maintenance.  All owners of private yachts (long-term slip renters) should report to the JYM to board your yacht.  The Rite Breeze Grocery Store is within 200 strides of this dock.  The grocery still will be moving right next door to HBV's marina.  They tell us it'll be by the holidays 2009 -- we'll update our website when that has happened.  We're told they will have a deli counter in the new location.  This will be very well received -- we can assure you of that.

PVC offers maintenance service to long-term slip renters at $40.00/hour.  Additional services are available to guests upon request.  Maintenance provided as available as the charter boats have our first priority.  Please call ahead to schedule your desired service requests.

Long-term slip renters will be asked to complete/present the following paperwork prior to your arrival at our dock:  A Slip Rental Agreement, Proof of Insurance, Certificate of Documentation and a current survey (within two years).  All forms are available by e-mail at your request.  We prefer that paperwork is completed prior to your arrival.

Internet service for guests is limited on East End though you may sit outside at the waterfront and sign on to Harbourview's wifi.  A walk's distance away (or a quick dinghy ride), Red Rock Restaurant & Bar at Penn's Landing offers free internet if you order a drink and/or food while on the net.  You provide your own computer.

A new bar (so new it doesn't have a name just yet) has been built at HBV Marina right by the pool.  We're told they will open soon.  Stop by for a cold one!

You may also enjoy Sailor's Ketch which is located right next door to Penn's Landing.  All fish is sold frozen.  They also have chicken breasts which are delish.  We're told he's working on red meats but that hasn't happened just yet.  Contact them at 1-284-495-1100, sailorsketch@aol.com , http://www.sailorketch.com/.  You will find Mark a pleasure to work with.  Their food is EXCELLENT!

ICE:  Right next door to Sailors Ketch is Alphonsos Gas Station where you may purchase 20# bags of ice for $5.00.  It is best to dinghy in to Penn's Landing and walk right next door to the gas station.  PVC will run for the ice for its PVC charter guests.  Blocks of ice are not available here on East End.

The marina store at the HBV marina is open seven days a week.  Stop in to meet Ron and find your marine parts right here on East End!  We'd like to support him to assure he stays at our location.

Long-term renters may also rent a  Digicel Boat Phone from PVC for $10.00 and then pay ask us to add $$$ to the phone.  Minimum purchase is $5.00.  Rates to US/Canada are around $.50/minute 7 AM-6 PM/.  With a top-up of $20.00 all local calls are $.17/minute.  We will charge you for the phone if it goes missing or "in the drink."  You may Top Up around the islands at grocery stores, restaurants, gift shops, etc.  We can also do it for you between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM.  The phones work in the BVI only though we received reports from guests that they receive reception in some parts of the USVI.

We have 10 mooring balls in front of the James Young Marina for overnight rental of $25.00.  Rent should be made at Pro Valor Charters' offices at the HBV marina or call 1-284-340-7258 (Jim).  If you hang onto your receipt and charter with us at a future date, we will reimburse you the $25.00.  There is also a chance one of the guys might come right to your boat in a dinghy to collect the $25 and offer a receipt.

Garbage disposal can be made at Penn's Lending where a large dumpster is located as you walk east toward Penn's Landing facility.  Penn's Landing is a two-block walk or dinghy ride away from HBV or JYM.  There is no disposal for garbage at either the JYM or HBV unless you walk down the road to dispose of the garbage yourself.  You are best to dinghy into Penn's Landing and walk next door.

Whether you need overnight dockage or a long-term home for your yacht, James Young Marina offers the most reasonable rates on the island.  Additionally, you'll find the marina a lovely place to call home.

*** RESTAURANTS IN THE AREA ***

Kong Ming Asian Terrace, Tortola

You may enjoy lunch or dinner at Kong Ming Asian Terrace located right in the marina.  Check out the lovely view from the restaurant - both photos show Kong Ming upstairs.

Eclipse Restaurant , Tortola

The Red Rock Restaurant & Bar at Penn's Landing - just a walk or dinghy ride away - great eats!  (Under new ownership as of November 2008 -- we are unsure when they'll reopen and what their menu will entail.  Stay tuned ...)

Emiles, Tortola

Emile's Restaurant is right across the street from the marina and offers good value for the money.  It's a very laid-back atmosphere.  Their menu includes mexican food along with chicken sandwiches and hamburgers, pizzas and salads.  Their location makes for the perfect first round of drinks as you arrive from your flight!

Enjoy the sites around the BVIs over dinner -- they're pretty spectacular!!!
